The College Football Hall of Fame calls him American football's most-renowned coach and he is credited with popularizing the use of the forward pass. As head coach of the University of Notre Dame football team from 1918 to 1930, he established their highest all-time winning percentage of 88.1%, he coached 105 victories, 12 losses, 5 ties and 6 national championships, including 5 undefeated seasons without a tie.
